Open the Official Booking Portal
Go to the official Uttarakhand Forest Department safari booking website. Search for "Uttarakhand Forest Safari Booking" on Google - use the official .gov or .uk.gov.in domain. Avoid third-party clone sites charging extra fees. If unsure which site is official, WhatsApp us and we'll share the direct link.
Use a desktop or laptop browser for the easiest booking experience. Mobile works but can be slower.

Select Rajaji Tiger Reserve
From the list of national parks and tiger reserves, select "Rajaji Tiger Reserve." The booking system lists it under Uttarakhand. Do not confuse with Jim Corbett or other parks listed on the same portal.

Choose Your Zone & Safari Date
Select your preferred safari zone - Chilla, Motichur, Jhilmil Jheel, Ranipur, or Mohand. Then select your preferred date. The calendar shows available and booked slots. Green = available. Red/Grey = full or closed. Not sure which zone? See our zone comparison guide.
If Chilla morning slots show as full for your date, try the evening slot or try a date 1-2 days later. Cancellations often open up closer to the date.

Select Safari Time Slot
Choose Morning (6:00 AM) or Evening (3:00 PM). Morning slots are always recommended for best wildlife activity. The system may show how many seats remain per slot. Morning Chilla Zone slots - especially December to February - fill within hours of the booking window opening.

Enter All Visitor Details
Add names, ages, and ID numbers for every person in your group. Indian nationals: Aadhaar Card number. Foreign nationals: Passport number. Add an email address for permit delivery. Double-check all names and ID numbers - mismatches at the gate will prevent entry and there are no refunds.
Names in the permit must exactly match the ID you carry to the gate. Any mismatch = denied entry, no refund.

Pay Online
Pay the total amount via UPI, debit card, credit card, or net banking. The total includes: entry fee (₹150/adult Indian) + jeep safari fee (₹2,500 per vehicle) + any camera permit. Payment is secure through the government payment gateway.

Download & Print Your Permit
After successful payment, download your safari permit PDF. You will also receive it by email. Print the permit or keep a clear digital copy on your phone. At the gate, you must show: (1) your permit, (2) original ID matching the permit, (3) camera permit if applicable. Arrive at the gate at least 20 minutes before safari start time.
Take a screenshot of your permit - gate areas may have poor mobile data connectivity.

What to Carry - At the Gate
Every person in your group must carry a valid ID that matches the permit exactly. No exceptions.
Indian Nationals - Required Documents
- Aadhaar Card (original) - most widely accepted
- Voter ID Card (original) - valid alternative
- PAN Card - accepted as secondary ID
- Driving Licence - accepted
- Passport - valid for Indian nationals too
- Children below 5: no ID required
- Children 5-12: any school ID or parent's ID
Name on ID must exactly match the name entered in the booking. Check before submitting.
Foreign Tourists - Required Documents
- Valid Passport (original) - mandatory, no alternatives
- India visa stamped in passport - must be valid
- Passport number entered during booking must match exactly
- OCI Card holders: OCI Card + foreign passport
- NRI with Indian passport: treated as Indian national
- Keep a clear photocopy as backup
Foreign tourists without original passport will be denied entry - no entry on a photocopy alone.

Always Book Morning
Morning safari (6 AM) gives 3-4× more wildlife activity than evening. Tigers, elephants, and most mammals are active at dawn before heat sets in. If you can only do one safari - always choose morning. Evening is a bonus, not a substitute.
Peak Season Rule
December to February Chilla Zone morning slots disappear within 24-48 hours of opening. Republic Day (Jan 26), Christmas, and New Year weekends - book 3-4 weeks early. March-April: 1 week advance is fine. May-June: even walk-in usually works.
Double-Check Name Spelling
The single most common mistake visitors make - entering a name that doesn't exactly match their ID. "Rahul" vs "Rahul Kumar" - even a middle name mismatch can cause problems at the gate. Check every name carefully before payment.
Screenshot Your Permit
Gate areas near Chilla and Motichur often have poor mobile data connectivity. Always take a clear screenshot of your booking permit before leaving for the gate. Don't rely on a PDF that requires internet to open - screenshots work offline.
